REASON WHY MUSLIM WOMEN DO HENNA AND WHAT IT DOES.

Henna is basically a powdered version of a plant known as Lawsonia Inermis, which is widely grown and its product is mostly used in Northern Africa, Middle East, Southern Asia, Europe and some African countries. Religious sects such as Hindus, Muslims, Pagans, Christians and others use the henna and this varies from region to region.
Historically, henna has also been used for medicinal purposes since the prophets (SAW) time, to treat ailments such as diarrhea, cancer, headache, stomach upset and skin conditions. It can also be used for cosmetics, hair dye, finger nails and hair care product as well as clothing. There are different types of henna design and colors in Ghana but only use two colors, red and black for designs.

Henna also has health benefit which plays important part in balancing natural acid-alkaline in the hair, it maintains blood pressure and also a remedy for headaches and migraines. The prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) stated in the hadith that Muslim women should put on henna to be able to differentiate between male and female. These days it is very common for people to use henna on the skin as temporary tattoos.

Ghana, there are many designs associated with henna and is mostly among Muslim
women. It is believed that deeper the color of henna on the bride’s hand, the
better would be her relationship with the mother-in-law, it also brings good
health, fruitfulness and prosperity. And signify the strength of love between
the bride and groom. Henna are secret symbols of loyalty and good luck
In
an interview with a henna expert at mamobi nima, Mariam Abdullah, stated that henna
is generally an intricate design. They start on the hand and the design goes up
and down both arms. It is important to note that henna designs are not like
other tattoos which stick to your body until you have it removed. Henna design
tend to last for 2 weeks before it starts to take on a faded appearance. It is
impossible to remove except through natural fading.
She further, mentioned the fact that some Christians also visit her studio to get designs and the health complication that comes with it.
